At the foot of the Carpathians, Brasov unveils its Saxon old town, its gothic Black Church and its proximity to Bran Castle. A major stop in Transylvania.

The city of Brasov – "Kronstadt" according to Saxon settlers – was surrounded by fortifications: defensive walls, watchtowers, bastions, and drawbridges. Among the most interesting sites to visit are the Black Church (the largest Gothic cathedral between Vienna and Istanbul), Rope Street – an extraordinarily narrow alleyway – and Council Square. The Black Church of Brasov is the most imposing Gothic church between Vienna and Istanbul, featuring an impressive collection of Oriental carpets and an original Bucholz organ.
