Just 35 kilometres from Cluj-Napoca, you'll find the Turda mine. This former salt mine (which ceased operations in 1932) served as a shelter during World War II. Ocna Sibiului is a spa town located in the județ of Sibiu. Situated on a saline zone, the town has several salt lakes, renowned for their therapeutic properties:
Lacul Brancoveanu : with a depth of 45 metres and salinity of 320 grams per litre of water, it's the saltiest lake in Ocna Sibiului.
Lacul fără Fund : this « bottomless » lake is a geological nature reserve.
Lacul Avram Iancu Ocnita : with a depth of 130 metres, this lake is the deepest in Roumanie.

5 - Discovering Libearty Bear Sanctuary
One and a half hours' drive from Brașov, discover Libearty Bear Sanctuary, in the town of Zărnești. This sanctuary rescues bears from mistreatment. Housed in a 69-hectare forest, the animals live in semi-freedom. Unlike a zoo, the bears are released into the wild once healed. A guide will tell you the story of each resident. The entrance fee (around €12) helps maintain the sanctuary and care for the bears (as well as a few wolves and horses).
