Iasi
Iasi
A former capital of Moldavia, birthplace of Mihai Eminescu and home to Romania's first university, Iasi unfolds as a journey through the country's Orthodox and literary heritage.
Inaugurated in 1926, the Palace of Culture in Iasi has become the city's symbol and the beating heart of cultural events held here. It comprises 299 rooms, which house heritage collections, art galleries, and a library. Built in neo-Gothic style with fantastical ornamental details and heraldic elements, the Palace's interior impresses above all through two exceptional rooms: the Gothic Hall and the Hall of Voivodes.
The city of Iasi earned the honorary title of cultural capital when it relinquished its status as the country's political seat, and the Palace of Culture stands as a fitting tribute to this distinction.
