Oradea
Oradea
An Art Nouveau jewel in western Roumanie, Oradea captivates with its Secession palaces, star-shaped fortress, and the nearby Felix thermal baths.
The city of Oradea is a major road and rail hub through which tourists pass when crossing the Roumanie-Hungarian border at Bors or Episcopia Bihorului, in the country's central region. The city center is a treat for architecture enthusiasts of the 19th and 20th centuries: sublime buildings offer a fine summary of the Secession style (close to Art Nouveau).
It is impossible not to succumb to the allure and charm of Oradea, in Roumanie, whose rich Art Nouveau heritage is notably tied to the dynamism of its English-speaking Jewish community. Flourishing, it led to the construction of magnificent houses, veritable palaces. The diversity of its population was one of Oradea's strengths, fostering cultural exchange. It is worth noting that two major Art Nouveau currents coexist in Oradea: one of Hungarian origin that draws inspiration from folklore and plays with curves and floral motifs, the other more distinctly Roumanian is more austere, more geometric, and approaches Viennese Secession.
